How well does the Garmin inReach Mini 2 battery life with MapShare work? Well, that’s what I set out to test on my last fishing trip. I wanted to make sure my family knew where I was on the trip through southwest Colorado, but I wasn’t sure how long the battery would last when my Mini 2 was set on Active Track and sending my location every hour.
Spoiler alert: The inReach Mini 2 battery life was far battery then I expected.
Garmin inReach Mini 2 Setup
The first thing I did was set my tracking send interval to 2 hours so I would give a good amount of tracks but not drag down the battery more then necessary.
Fishing Trip
Next, I turned on Auto Track when I woke up and set off on my fishing trip to southwest Colorado. You always want Auto Track on when using MapShare as no one will get any tracking information if you forget to turn on tracking. Turning on Auto Track will help if you forget to start tracking.
I also made sure everyone in my family had access to the Garmin MapShare page. You can send individuals and email or you can share to FaceBook or Twitter.
I kept monitoring the battery level during my fishing trip, expecting the battery level to drop quickly as I was constantly sending tracking information to the MapShare page. I finally stopped the test after six days as the results were obvious.
Results of the Battery Life Test
I was impressed to find out that after using the Garmin inReach Mini 2 for six day, except for sleeping at night, that I still had about 60% of my battery life remaining. At that rate, I could get at least 1.5 weeks of use with my inReach Mini 2 when using MapShare. See the specifications below for how long the battery will last in different configurations.
