What satellite communicator will win between ZOLEO vs Garmin inReach Mini 2?
What They Have in Common
- SOS Alert Button
- Two-way Messaging
- Location Sharing
- Weather
- Iridium Global Satellite Coverage
- Compact and Lightweight
How Are They Different?
- ZOLEO
- Changes from WIFI to Cell Service to Satellite Coverage Automatically
- Dedicated Phone Number
- Garmin inReach Mini 2
- Topo Maps on Synced Smartphone
- Navigation and Tracks on Device and Smartphone
- 2-way Messaging and Weather from the Device
What Are They Good At?
- ZOLEO is better at communicating as it has a dedicated phone number, plus it changes automatically from WIFI to cell service to satellite service. This would be a great device for someone who primarily needs to communicate and already has the ability to navigate and see maps.
- The Garmin inReach Mini 2 has topo and aerial maps, plus it can navigate and TracBack. The Mini 2 is a better option for hiking, backpacking or any outdoor adventure when you want to communicate and navigate.
Final Thoughts
I would strongly consider ZOLEO if you are primarily camping and need to communicate, but outside of that, I would go with the Garmin Mini 2 as it can do everything the ZOLEO can do, plus you can navigate and see maps.
This is a personal decision and much your decision will be centered around how you use the satellite messenger and what your priorities are.
